Fall break next week!
Enjoy your Fall Break from September 27-October1
We will see you back at school Monday, October 4th. The Week at a Glance is posted for the week we return.
We are finishing up our first unit this week! Please read the email from your English teacher with additional information about the summative project. Students will need to print some pictures at home this weekend. Students will also have a spelling test, Social Studies test, and math quiz this week before we head in to Fall Break!
Your student should now be connected to Spelling Stars via their Spelling Google Classroom. We've had a few glitches with the new platform, but it should be working for all students now. Please email your teacher if you cannot access SpellingStars.
Students can play games to practice their words. You can also see or print out all of your words by going to Handouts and then List Handouts. You can even make fun practice at home like word searches and fill in the blank! Our first spelling test will by Tuesday, Sept 14.
upcoming events: Pictures & spelling
School picture day is Thursday, September 9!
Wear your UNIFORM for yearbook photos!
Spelling starts next week!
Make sure your student joins the new spelling Google Classroom (titled Spelling Wolves, Spelling Wizards, etc)
Spelling lists will be posted Monday. The first Spelling Test will be Tuesday, Sept 14.
Students were given a spelling assessment in school last week to determine their understanding of spelling patterns. Word lists will be assigned based on knowledge of these patterns. Some words may be "easy" to spell, but we want students to learn the pattern and be able to apply it to both familiar words (from their spelling list) and unfamiliar words when they are reading and writing.
No toys in 5th grade
5th graders are off to a great start, but we are noticing that MANY students are distracted by too much "stuff" and spend more time thinking about their materials rather than completing work, following directions, and participating in class. Please leave the following at home:
Any toys, including Poppers. *These are marketed as helpful, but are actually VERY distracting to most students! Contact your teacher if your student has a specific in need or 504 plan.
Extra Marker and Pens. Students should have a few different colors for taking notes, but many have entire boxes and bags of "special" pens. These are not needed in 5th grade.
Please start checking your student's grades in Infiinte Campus through the Parent Portal. Some students already have missing work that needs to be completed.
curriculum night: Thursday, August 19
Join us on (virtually) on August 19 at 5pm for Curriculum night to learn more about 5th grade topics and expectations. You can join via the following Google Meet nicknames:
